Getting a Fashion School Education

Many people dream of a career in the fashion industry. In reality, this is a very lucrative, yet competitive field, so the more education and experience you have the better.

So, what does it take to get into fashion or design schools? Depending on the school, there are many requirements that need to be met for acceptance.

Enrollment into a fashion school does not necessarily mean designing each and every day. There are many different choices for the fashion school graduate. You can become a fashion buyer and work and travel for boutiques and stores. You’ll be scouting out the latest fashions for inclusion in the store’s inventory. There’s also the business and management aspect of the fashion industry.

Depending on the school you wish to attend, you will need to meet certain requirements. These requirements can include graduation from high school, a certain GPA and certain scores on college entrance exams.

While you may meet these general admission requirements, there may be other requirements. Many schools require other skills assessments and tests. Additionally, skills assessments may be a graduation requirement as well.

You will also be required to have a portfolio for both admission and graduation at the majority of fashion schools. In many cases, the quality of your portfolio may be more important than your GPA as it is an indicator of your skills and talent.

You will also be required to have traditional fashion sketching skills, as this is a very important aspect of any fashion school curriculum.

Gucci: The Famous Italian Fashion House

When you think of the major labels that define fashion, Gucci is sure to come to mind. The famous Italian fashion house has been setting the standard in exclusive collections and high style for decades. For the fashion-forward individual on a budget, price versus value may keep the granddaddy of fashion out of his or her closet.

That doesn’t mean the major fashion designers have to be ignored. It just means that shoppers should look for major labels that are inspired by those legends.

Get Quality and Looks You Can Afford

If Italian is what you’re after, consider Diesel brand for men. It’s a flagship Italian brand that provides all men’s wear products from shirts, to jeans, to shoes and accessories, and they do it at affordable prices. Without a big dent in the bank account, men can keep up with new fashion that easily combines price and value.

By purchasing quality clothing at a good price, the man who can’t live without products from exclusive collections will have some cash left over to add a touch of Gucci. Even if it’s shades or a belt, it will definitely dress up the stylish guy.

Girls and Gucci

At some point in her life, every woman has either owned or wanted a Gucci bag. It’s often the closest any girl gets to the products of a famous designer, but that doesn’t mean she has to forgo what’s hot on the catwalk this season. Whether it’s one of the latest playsuits for a lunch date, or an LBD for a night out on the town, there are plenty of affordable quality handbag brands that will complement her look.

The Value of Garments in Fashion

One of the factors that plays a role in whether a piece of clothing is fashionable is not its look, but its construction. If the value of the actual material is poor, no one wants to buy it and wear it. It is easy to tell this, too. For those shopping for new clothing, make it a point to consider the value of the garment’s makeup.

What Is the Cost?

The cost of clothing that is fashionable is high. The reason is usually the brand name, but it can also be other factors. Consider the following reasons you will pay more for designer dresses, shoes and even costumes and accessories.

  • The brand name makes a big difference. The name on the label is often what many are searching for because it implies a sense of quality and fashion sense. Sometimes you just enjoy one designer more than another and want a brand name.
  • The material also plays a role. Some of the most expensive clothing material may be a part of that garment. Most likely, you will pay more if the material is rare, hard to make or older.
  • The construction of the garment is also a decisive factor. Take a look at the seams and color. Is the construction quality there?

When buying clothing, do not shy away from a high price tag. Rather, determine if the piece is something you can wear long-term, and if it is fashionable and well-made. Then it may just be worth the higher cost you have to pay for it.

Luckily, there are a number of trends that aren’t that expensive and will end up helping you stay on top of the style world while keeping within your budget. Here are a few.

Chunky Jewelry

This trend is here to stay. While chunky jewelry can be worn with costumes for Halloween, it’s also worn by the most fashionable females for a fraction of the price of most jewelry. Costume Jewelry

There are those who love jewelry but can’t afford to buy lavish diamond and pearl pieces. However, costume jewelry is in, looks fabulous and is offered for a fraction of the price. You can get a whole collection of pieces for the price of just one beautiful diamond. Ask your friends when their next costume jewelry party is.

These fashion trends are very reasonably priced and are easy to get into. Go ahead and investigate how you can be up on these fabulous fashion fads.

Gucci for the Money Concious Fashionista

Gucci is a famous, Italian fashion line that dates back to 1921. It is very popular with celebrities and you’ve probably heard the brand mentioned in major films. Gucci is most well-known for their handbags, but they also sell clothing and a variety of leather goods. If you want to impress your friends with your fashion sense, you can’t go wrong with the Gucci brand. They’ve been setting fashion trends for decades.

According to BusinessWeek Magazine, in 2008 Gucci’s revenue reached over $4 billion, and similar figures have been reported each subsequent year. This means they are a stable company and have extra money to spend on innovative designs and bold fashion statements that most companies wouldn’t take a risk on. You can find the Gucci brand at some retail stores, but you might want to shop online or visit an actual Gucci store to ensure you are actually getting the true brand.

If you want to own a Gucci handbag but don’t have the money to spend on this exclusive label, there are plenty of knock-offs that can accommodate. You could also try shopping at second-hand shops, although you’ll have to check these stores often since designer labels are always the first to go. Gucci also sells their last year’s fashions at a discount, so you can probably get a good price if you don’t mind being one fashion season behind.

Gucci is a great brand that people will be talking about for years to come. You should get your hands on a Gucci handbag and show it off to your friends. It is the perfect complement to any outfit.

Changing the Calendar of Education

It appears that everyone is looking for an answer with the education system. Test scores are down all over the country and kids are getting to high school with less and less verbal and math skills. Educators, politicians and parents alike are searching for the answer. With all the fancy systems and new theories the answer to the education dilemma answer might be right under their noses.

It comes in the way that the traditional school year is structured. Back when the education system was in it is infancy stage they used to allow the children off for the summer to tend to the crops, but these days that is hardly the thing that most kids do with their summer vacation. Now their vacations are spent shopping online for designer clothes like apple bottom jeans and taking a breather from the hustle and bustle of school life.

This is the problem with the modern education system. So much information is lost by the time the children return to school in the fall. There are some teachers that give their kids some summer assignments but many schools do not and fewer kids successfully complete the assignments. It is a difficult balancing act.

The best thing that the education system can do is look at charter schools that are changing the hours and weeks they go to school. They are having fantastic results.

The education system is not going to fix itself and it may take a radical change in order to move forward. Changing the calendar might be a great way to start.

Reconciling Price and Value

The pursuit of fashion isn’t an easy thing. As consumers, we scrutinize garments and their prices wondering whether the quality is worth the price. It seemsabsurd to pay for a designer name or a specific fiber. There doesn’t seem to be a way to justification the price.

After all, this is not an engagement ring which demanded funds for diamonds. This is mere clothing. The issue of price versus value is a common one. It is also, however, easily solved.
There are two reasons to devote higher amounts to garments and, once these are understood, purchasing can be a far simpler task.

Label

No element determines the cost of an outfit more than the tiny words printed inside it. The label, which reveals the identity of a designer, allows individuals to form instant trust with a piece of clothing. Name recognition is vital: it ensures that all wearers can feel secure with their purchases. Items are known to be worth the price because they will last. Spending more for a particular brand is often recommended.

Fabric

The old adages are often proven true and individuals do indeed get what they pay for. Fabrics that are hastily stitched (or suffer from weak fibers) will be reduced in price. This makes them appealing to those on a budget . . . until they rip mere months after being purchased. Quality is often only given to expensive cloths. These while more costly will offer durability for years. The price is therefore justified.

These notions drive the price versus value debate and allow it to be won by those craving good sense.

Runway Fashions for a Fraction of the Price

Most people want to look nice, and those interested in fashion especially want to be able to find fashion that is fit for the runway without paying a fortune. While fashion designers and major labels may be out of your budget, there are ways to shop around and find a look that is current and innovative, while looking like you spent more than you actually did.

In fact, there is no reason whatsoever to not take advantage of shopping online to find the look you’re after without having to pay the prices that major labels may require. Many collections can be found by simply visiting shopping sites such as offers.com that allow you to create the same look with a product that is just as good as the expensive one. For instance, if you really want the latest shoe that is in style, you can find a pair that may not have a major label on it but will look like a designer shoe. Unless someone wants to check the inside of your shoes or the name is typically in a place that can be seen, who will know the difference?

Once you pair the shoes with an outfit that is similar in style to what you have seen on the runway, you can look like a million bucks without spending thousands of dollars. The most important thing to remember is to plan your collection on the budget that you are comfortable with and never feel less than a million bucks no matter whose label you are wearing.

Understanding Value: Fashion

Cost is an unfortunate word. It demands dollars you can’t spare, forces you to surrender precious pennies. Fashion is dominated by this philosophy, however — claiming that outfits are worthwhile only when boasting hefty tags. Price and value are entwined.

This… isn’t true.

The value of garments isn’t proven by their expense. It’s instead shown through:

Silhouettes

Style is more than a collection of colors. It’s instead the way fabric clings to your body, offers the illusion of hour-glass appeal (while cleverly disguising the little imperfections). All garments must be tailored to your height, weight and curves. Pieces that don’t fit have no value therefore. Designer names, seasonal patterns and budget-friendly costs offer nothing in the wake of too long hems and sagging shoulder seams.

Quality

Fashion is meant to offer beauty. It must also, however, provide endurance. Dollars aren’t easy things for you to toss away. Trying to replace the constant rips, tears and stray strings of poorly crafted garments can therefore become expensive. No item can have value if it’s cheaply sewn, made from fabric that’s certain to fade. You must therefore choose only quality outfits.

Applications

There are designs that defy description, garments that are one of a kind. Seeking these is an easy temptation: you want to distinguish yourself from the common trends, the stifling styles. Often, however, these pieces can only be worn for (highly) specific events. They spend most of the year tucked away in your closet — and unable to justify their costs. Value must include the ability to apply items to multiple occasions. Usability is essential for those with limited funds.

These are the cornerstones of value. Price is secondary.
