Getting a Fashion School Education

Many people dream of a career in the fashion industry. In reality, this is a very lucrative, yet competitive field, so the more education and experience you have the better.

So, what does it take to get into fashion or design schools? Depending on the school, there are many requirements that need to be met for acceptance.

Enrollment into a fashion school does not necessarily mean designing each and every day. There are many different choices for the fashion school graduate. You can become a fashion buyer and work and travel for boutiques and stores. You’ll be scouting out the latest fashions for inclusion in the store’s inventory. There’s also the business and management aspect of the fashion industry.

Depending on the school you wish to attend, you will need to meet certain requirements. These requirements can include graduation from high school, a certain GPA and certain scores on college entrance exams.

While you may meet these general admission requirements, there may be other requirements. Many schools require other skills assessments and tests. Additionally, skills assessments may be a graduation requirement as well.

You will also be required to have a portfolio for both admission and graduation at the majority of fashion schools. In many cases, the quality of your portfolio may be more important than your GPA as it is an indicator of your skills and talent.

You will also be required to have traditional fashion sketching skills, as this is a very important aspect of any fashion school curriculum.

Changing the Calendar of Education

It appears that everyone is looking for an answer with the education system. Test scores are down all over the country and kids are getting to high school with less and less verbal and math skills. Educators, politicians and parents alike are searching for the answer. With all the fancy systems and new theories the answer to the education dilemma answer might be right under their noses.

It comes in the way that the traditional school year is structured. Back when the education system was in it is infancy stage they used to allow the children off for the summer to tend to the crops, but these days that is hardly the thing that most kids do with their summer vacation. Now their vacations are spent shopping online for designer clothes like apple bottom jeans and taking a breather from the hustle and bustle of school life.

This is the problem with the modern education system. So much information is lost by the time the children return to school in the fall. There are some teachers that give their kids some summer assignments but many schools do not and fewer kids successfully complete the assignments. It is a difficult balancing act.

The best thing that the education system can do is look at charter schools that are changing the hours and weeks they go to school. They are having fantastic results.

The education system is not going to fix itself and it may take a radical change in order to move forward. Changing the calendar might be a great way to start.

Label 

No element determines the cost of an outfit more than the tiny words printed inside it. The label, which reveals the identity of a designer, allows individuals to form instant trust with a piece of clothing. Name recognition is vital: it ensures that all wearers can feel secure with their purchases. Items are known to be worth the price because they will last. Spending more for a particular brand is often recommended. 

Fabric 

The old adages are often proven true and individuals do indeed get what they pay for. Fabrics that are hastily stitched (or suffer from weak fibers) will be reduced in price. This makes them appealing to those on a budget . . . until they rip mere months after being purchased. Quality is often only given to expensive cloths. These while more costly will offer durability for years. The price is therefore justified.
