Value for the fashion is not to be confused with fashion for the value. The logic behind value for fashion is that fashion has become an investment. Designer like Gucci, Versace, and even Rachel Roy, have made their marks on the fashion world, and as a result, their intellectual ideas are worth a lot more than just pride, it can have an impact on your bank account. Designers today are releasing their clothing lines like art. In keeping with the art theme, they are releasing first and second edition clothing pieces, or original clothing pieces. These pieces are numbered, and in some cased not duplicated. Christies auction house recently sold an original piece of Armani art, the now deceased figurine designer, for almost one million dollars. Designers have come to the conclusion that their work is indeed art, and are replicating the same ideas, by having extremely limited amount of their products available on the mainstream market, and in fact are limiting much of their work to private sale.

What does this mean for the consumer? That the idea that clothing, and even designer clothing is a liquid investment, is dissipating. In fact, designer clothing is becoming an actual investment, however, it is, like another investment, at its richest when it is its most mint condition. So you may own a mint condition, one of a kind Pucci, but wearing it may result with a diminishing return. It is the price you pay for fashion, either you wear it and are the envy of the community, or you simply admire it on a mannequin or professionally boxed for preservation. Either way, you will always have the bragging rights of owning a fashionable garment, that has hand created, just for you. That in itself is worth having a piece that you can call wearable art.
